Dates are a delicious dessert fruit. Dates are sweet and sugary. They sometimes taste a bit like honey. They have one large seed that is inedible. Dates are one of the most popular fruits and have a great amount of nutrients, minerals and vitamins. They are soft and easily digestible. Dates have tannins, which are known to help relieve infections, inflammations and hemorrhaging. This fruit also helps protect from some cancers, including colon, prostate, breast and lung. They also have calcium, which is extremely important for healthy bones and teeth.

Dates are available all year, but are best from September to December. Dried dates are eaten as a popular snack. They can be stuffed with cheese or nuts. They can also be added to salad or in desserts like pie or cake.

Here are some recipes, from date bread to cheese-stuffed dates wrapped in prosciutto.
