Figs are one of the oldest fruits in history. They are healthy and delicious and grow on fruit trees. The fig is grown in the United States, Spain and throughout the Mediterranean. It can also be grown in home gardens. Like many fruits, the fig is low in calories. They are full of fiber, vitamins and minerals. Dried figs are also a good source of vitamins and minerals. The health benefits of figs include helping control the heart rate and blood pressure. They can also help protect from cancer, diabetes and infection.

If you are a fresh fig fan, you can buy them all year long, but they are easiest to find and taste best from May through November. Figs can be served in salad or ice cream. They are also popular in soup, or added to meat. Like many fruits, figs are popular in cakes, muffins or pies.

Here are some great recipes to try, from tarts, to lamb, to oatmeal.
